Lomiri App development level 2
ossciAbout This Course
The Lomiri II – Advanced Application Development course builds upon the foundations established in Lomiri I and takes students deeper into the design and development of sophisticated, production-ready applications for the Lomiri and Ubuntu Touch ecosystem. The focus shifts from basic application creation toward advanced user experiences, convergent design patterns, and dynamic application behavior required for modern mobile and desktop environments.
As applications become more feature-rich and interactive, developers must design interfaces that remain intuitive across multiple screen sizes and devices. This course introduces students to advanced interface techniques and interaction models unique to the Lomiri environment, enabling them to create seamless experiences that adapt intelligently between phones, tablets, and desktop systems.
Students will explore advanced QML development patterns, sophisticated navigation systems, and modern interaction techniques including gestures, floating action buttons, adaptive layouts, and dynamic UI components. The course emphasizes creating interfaces that are not only visually engaging but also efficient, responsive, and optimized for convergent computing principles.
Throughout the course, learners will build increasingly complex applications involving rich content editing, advanced search and filtering mechanisms, hierarchical data structures, and interactive feedback systems. Students will also gain practical experience implementing modern features such as theme management, dark mode support, media handling capabilities, and integration with Ubuntu Touch platform services such as Content Hub.
Strong emphasis is placed on real-world application architecture and usability patterns used by active open-source projects. Students will continue engaging with community-oriented development practices while learning how advanced applications are structured and maintained within the broader Ubuntu Touch ecosystem.
By the end of this course:
- The student can implement advanced UI interactions and gestures
- The student can design multi-pane and convergent layouts
- The student can use Floating Action Buttons (FABs) and advanced navigation patterns
- The student can implement complex input and selection components
- The student can build rich content and editing interfaces
- The student can create advanced filtering and search systems
- The student can implement dialogs, progress indicators, and feedback systems
- The student can manage complex hierarchical data structures
- The student can implement dynamic UI behaviors, including collapsible views
- The student can enable theme and dark mode support
- The student can integrate Content Hub and media handling features
This course prepares students to build advanced, feature-rich Lomiri applications and serves as a bridge toward large-scale application development, community contributions, and professional open-source mobile software engineering.
Requirements
Students are expected to have successfully completed Lomiri I – Application Development or possess equivalent practical experience. Participants should have a solid understanding of Linux environments, Qt/QML application development, and working knowledge of JavaScript within QML applications. Students should already be comfortable creating applications using Clickable, implementing core application logic, handling basic data persistence, and packaging applications for Ubuntu Touch.
A background in C or C++ remains beneficial, while familiarity with Python backend development, basic software architecture principles, and open-source development workflows is considered advantageous. Experience participating in community-driven projects or using Ubuntu Touch/Lomiri applications is also recommended.
